Finding Out: What Is My Social Security Retirement Eligibility Age?
When you reach your full retirement age (FRA), you become eligible for the maximum Social Security benefit, known as your primary insurance amount (PIA). The PIA is a predetermined amount calculated using your average salary throughout your career, adjusted for inflation. Those born in 1954 can retire at age 66, while those born in 1960 or later must wait until they reach age 67.
